Personally I do not consider myself a writer. I don’t enjoy writing in my free time, no matter how well articulated I am. I tend to dislike the many constraints given when I do have to write. These stipulations have caused me to develop a certain disdain for writing, throughout my formative years. While in certain settings writing could be seen as enjoyable, like in preparation for a well thought out debate, this does not happen often. This is purely personal, and I do view myself as a capable writer when most needed.
Whenever I do sit down and write, I do it for school, a grade, or some sort of payment. If I do not gain something from the experience that furthers my future or helps me get ahead in the present, I don’t do it. I do memoirs, research papers, persuasive pieces, in-depth analysis’, and other forms of writing, on occasion during the school year. These are typically done in english, government, and on the off chance, chemistry. These tend to be frequent, but never in excess as to not develop a love or hate for them.
When doing a more open type of writing with little to no stipulations and less creative boundaries, I am at my best. I find the need to please and finish the objective restricting when writing, so the absence of this is very freeing. On the other side of the spectrum, writing assignments with a lot of restrictions like assessments or exams are also a strong suit of mine. When writing this way it is easier for my mind not to wander on minute details during writing, so I can create a more concise piece. The varying degrees of writing potential I possess when either heavily restricted, or given free reign is astounding, and an interesting comparison.

For my groups’ assignment, we were tasked to convince senior citizens to purchase guinea pigs as pets. We used a form of visual media by creating a print advertisement to inform/convince. My group was able to achieve this by means of repetitive adjectives and simple language. The reason we did this is because senior citizens would see it and think it would be perfect for their grandchildren; who they always view as very young no matter how old. We also used print media due to many seniors not a fan of technology, and many of them using things like newspapers and magazines. As a group, we personally believe we achieved our goal and did it effectively and effortlessly.

Here are some examples of what we were trying to, and successfully, achieved.
